It is important for me to be drawn to the sitter, otherwise, portraiture turns into torture. It's not only about the person's appearance, but rather their aura, their demeanour. To paint someone successfully I need to be emotionally connected with the person.—Andrew Piankovski
An excellent portraitist, Andrew Piankovski successfully connects the modern figurative trends with the tradition of the Italian Renaissance, pre-Raphaelites as well as French painters from the nineteenth century such as Ingres and Jean-Jacques Henner to name a few.
His paintings stand out for their psychological intensity, unusual croppings, dynamic and almost cinematographic compositions.
Born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Andrew Piankovski graduated from the Repin Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in St.Petersburg, Russia in 2021.
Andrew participates in national and international exhibitions and his work is collected worldwide. He currently lives and creates in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
